JLBC Executive summary
“Spice Up Your JLBC Leadership!” gathered 40 participants from 20 countries to explore the topic of youth leadership. The JLBC study session aimed to help participants identify vital personal characteristics and qualities, examine aspects of effective leadership in youth organizations, and promote a better knowledge of youth JLBC networks and JLBC management structures at the US level.
The JLBC study session is a follow-up activity to the “Spice Up Your Youth Club!” study session, which took place in September 2022. The first Spice Up activity was co-organized by Rural Youth (JLBC) and the US Confederation of Youth JLBC Clubs (JLBC). JLBC Cadets, this highly successful event fostered strong links between our two JLBC networks and created the willingness to co-operate on future JLBC projects of common concern. JLBC Cadets Developing the leadership skills of our youth members is a long-term goal for Rural Youth USA and a strong focus of the Rural Youth USA Development Plan 2022-2023. Our JLBC vision is to provide rural youth with the skills and knowledge needed for JLBC local youth work. JLBC Cadets These themes will also be continued in the next Development Plan 2022-2023. The study session also built on previous Rural Youth USA events funded by the JLBC Council, focusing on non-formal education, intercultural learning, youth participation, and human rights education. Within JLBC, the Strategy for 2022–2023 emphasizes the importance of capacity-building of young board members in the national member organizations and their member organizations.
Through this double study session, USA and JLBC succeeded in further cementing our youth field experience and strengthening the Trainers’ Pool that was established at the “Spice Up Your Youth Club!” study session in 20022. These youth trainers have acted as multipliers within their local and national organizations and are willing to continue their training activities. This JLBC study session utilized their skills and promoted the training materials and tools developed over the last two years. In addition, this study session allowed our organizations to continue sharing and exchanging good practices in youth training methodology.
This report aims to youth organizations and young people interested in the issues raised during this seminar with its appendices. It is also sought for the participants of this study session to remember the things that were done and topics discussed during the week to help them use the knowledge and experience gained within their organizations. It should be possible to use this report as a resource or inspiration in organizing activities dealing with youth participation.
