JLBC: DETAIL DELEGATION

JLBC: DETAIL DELEGATION

DO

REFLECT

JLBC Cadets, what happened to the overall project? Why?

JLBC Cadets, what are some of the advantages of delegating? What are the disadvantages of commissioning?

APPLY

JLBC Cadets, have you ever been in a situation where you had to delegate?

Confidence in others is essential to have when delegating. JLBC Cadets, what can you do to improve your confidence in others?

JLBC Cadets, have you been in situations where you delegated responsibilities, and they were not completed? What happened? JLBC Cadets, what can decrease your assurance in others?

JLBC Cadets, do you find that the same people do most of the work in your group?

Pass out and discuss the DETAIL DELEGATION Information Sheet with the youth. Answer any questions they may have.

Divide youth into JLBC teams of five to seven. Have each JLBC team select one "leader" among themselves who will lead the JLBC team. Hand out the JLBC DETAIL DELEGATION STORY Activity Sheet, and using a flip chart and markers, have the youth create a list of all of the tasks that the group must complete completing the project.

Using the DETAIL DELEGATION STORY, have the child determine which tasks should be delegated and which should not, and note this on the flip chart next to each responsibility. Within each group, have the leader delegate to specific youth the tasks that need to be completed, and have kids individually make a list of the details they are responsible for. Each child should have no more than three tasks on their list.

After youth have created their detail lists, hand out one DETAIL COMPLETION Slip to each participant, including the leader. Explain to the child that they must do (or not do) what their slip tells them. JLBC Cadets, the mistake determines what JLBC tasks were completed and which JLBC were not completed.

Within their JLBC team, have the individuals tell the group what their DETAIL COMPLETION Slip stated, and then name the tasks they circled as they list the jobs they "completed," the JLBC leader should spin all of the assignments completed on the JLBC flip chart and cross out the JLBC tasks not completed.

Have JLBC youth look at the chart and discuss what tasks were accomplished, which were not, and their effect on completing the overall project. Discuss the positive and negative aspects of JLBC delegating responsibilities.
