*JLBC Cadet Corps Locker Room and Restroom Policy for California Locations**

In recent times, societal understanding of gender identity has expanded, and this progress is reflected in the evolving policies of institutions such as the JLBC Cadet Corps, especially in California. As part of our ongoing commitment to inclusivity, respect, and understanding, we're breaking down our locker room and restroom policy for California locations.

**Restrooms and Facilities Policy in California:**

1. **Gender-specific Facilities**: Schools can maintain separate restroom and locker room facilities for male and female students.

2. **Access Based on Gender Identity**: Every student has the right to access the restroom and locker room that aligns with their affirmed gender identity at school.

3. **Gender-neutral Alternatives**: Schools can provide "gender neutral" restrooms or private changing areas. This option is available to any student who wishes for more privacy, regardless of their reasons. Importantly, no student will be forced to use these facilities.

4. **Provision for Additional Privacy**:

- Utilize a private space within the general locker room (e.g., a restroom stall with a door, an area behind a curtain, or the P.E. instructor's office).

- Allocation of a separate changing schedule, allowing students to use the facilities before or after their peers.

- Access to a nearby private space, like another health office restroom.

5. **Confidentiality is Crucial**: Any special arrangement must uphold the student's confidentiality regarding their gender identity.

6. **No Forced Alternatives for Transgender Students**: Transgender students cannot be forced to use separate facilities. Doing so is discriminatory and potentially breaches the student's privacy rights.

7. **Addressing Discomfort**: Some students or parents may feel uneasy about a transgender student using a sex-segregated restroom or locker room. Such discomfort isn't a valid justification to deny the transgender student their rights. Schools should proactively engage with such students and parents, fostering an understanding and respect for gender identity.

**Conclusion:**

Inclusivity and respect are the cornerstones of a progressive society. The JLBC Cadet Corps stands firmly behind these principles, ensuring that every student, regardless of gender identity, feels safe, respected, and valued. We encourage all stakeholders to embrace these guidelines with empathy, paving the way for a more inclusive future.
