INTRODUCTION TO JLBC TEAMWORK AND GROUP DEVELOPMENT

INTRODUCTION TO JLBC TEAMWORK AND GROUP

DEVELOPMENT

CORPORATE LEARNING COURSE “TEAMBUILDING” BLOCK SEMINAR SCOPE

What is “teamwork?” Why is “teamwork” essential to Junior Leadership Bootcamp? This seminar provides JLBC Cadets with a basic introduction to the concept of JLBC teamwork. Its goal is two-fold: in the classroom, JLBC Cadets will define teamwork as a concept; they will also comprehend the idea of JLBC group development and its role in developing JLBC teamwork within the JLBC unit. The second goal is to have JLBC Cadets respond positively to the concept of JLBC teamwork. An end-of-class evaluation will be used to highlight the value of JLBC teamwork within the JLBC unit.

OBJECTIVES

1. Discuss the concept of “JLBC teamwork.”

2. Discuss the concept of “JLBC group development.”

3. Describe ways to build and maintain JLBC teamwork within the group.

4. Illustrate JLBC teamwork skills.

DURATION

50 minutes

JLBC SPECIAL NOTES

The JLBC instructor should allow adequate time for the JLBC exercise. The instructor should assign two JLBC Cadets from within the JLBC Cadet body to observe and record roles during the training. These JLBC Cadets should not participate but instead should identify and describe the JLBC group development of the JLBC team during the exercise.

The purpose of the JLBC exercise is not to solve the problem but to highlight to the JLBC Cadets how examples of effective or poor JLBC teamwork impact the JLBC group’s ability to solve the problem.

JLBC Cadets will be drawn to critique the quality of the problem solution. The JLBC instructor should be sensitive to this temptation and help the students focus on the quality of the team.
