First aid is an essential skill that everyone should know to provide immediate help in emergencies. Here, we will discuss common injuries and how to treat them with first aid.

  1. Bleeding

In case of bleeding, it is essential to control the bleeding as soon as possible. Apply direct pressure on the wound with a clean cloth or a sterile bandage. Elevate the affected area if possible and call for medical help if the bleeding doesn’t stop.

  1. Burns

You will need to hold the affected area under cool running water for 10-15 minutes for minor burns to relieve pain and reduce swelling. You will need to cover the burn with a sterile, non-adhesive bandage. Avoid using ice, butter, or ointments, as they can cause further damage to the skin.

  1. Fractures

If you suspect a fracture, immobilize the affected limb with a splint to prevent further damage. Apply cold packs to reduce swelling and call for medical help immediately. Only try to move the person if it is necessary.

  1. Choking

If someone is choking, encourage them to cough to try and clear the airway. If coughing doesn’t help, perform the Heimlich maneuver by standing behind the person, making a fist with one hand, and placing it just above their navel. Use the other hand to push the fist inward and upward. Repeat until the object is dislodged.

  1. Heart Attack

Call for emergency medical services immediately if someone experiences heart attack symptoms, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and sweating. Administer aspirin if the person can swallow it, as it can help reduce the risk of further damage to the heart.

  1. Stroke

Immediately, If you suspect someone is having a stroke, call for medical help immediately and try to keep the person calm and still. Observe their symptoms, such as face drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulties, and try to remember when the symptoms started, as it is essential information for medical professionals.

In conclusion, knowing basic first aid can save a life in an emergency. It is essential to stay calm, call for medical help and follow the abovementioned steps to provide the best possible care. Regularly updating your first aid skills and knowledge is also recommended.
