ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam (AFNS) -- Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams from three nations leveraged Andersen's strategic location and the training area at Northwest Field during the Tri-Crab '97 exercise.

This annual joint and combined exercise is designed to evaluate and enhance explosive ordnance disposal capabilities. It is the only trilateral exercise conducted under the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet, showcasing multinational cooperation and interoperability.

EOD teams from the United States, Australia, and Singapore collaborated with U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps support forces during the event. One key exercise scenario involved simulated detonations, medical triage training with moulaged victims, and ambulatory transport provided by Navy Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Five.

"The exercise tests our interoperability with allied forces while conducting joint mobility and EOD operations," said Navy Lt. Paul Jensen, the exercise coordinator.

This year marked the second iteration of the Tri-Crab exercise.

"Last year's was very small compared to this," said Lt. Jensen. "We used it as a building block for this year's action."

Multiple scenarios were supported by Air Force controllers from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron and C-130 aircraft from the 1st Special Operations Squadron, both based at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Additional support was provided by the 374th Airlift Wing from Yokota Air Base, Japan; the 36th Operations Support Squadron and the 613th Air Communications Squadron at Andersen; and a tactical communications team from Company C, Marine Support Battalion, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Western Pacific, Guam.

The exercise highlighted the ability of the participating forces to work together under high-pressure conditions, demonstrating effective response and coordination in simulated combat and emergency situations.

As Tri-Crab '97 concluded, participants reflected on the growth and improvements made since the previous year, reinforcing their commitment to refining EOD capabilities and strengthening partnerships among allied nations.
