4️⃣ Ways To Help Your Teams Become Masters Of Their Crafts 🎭

4️⃣ Ways To Help Your Teams Become Masters Of Their Crafts 🎭

We all want our teams to feel good about their work and contribution. 🙌🏻

And it doesn't hurt our cause if they strive to be the best in their field!

If you can facilitate your team members in becoming incredible at what they do, you can turn your entire team into a driven, self-motivated group with a shared growth mindset.

Sounds like a dream, right? 💭

Here's how to do it.

1️⃣ Introduce the "craftsman" mindset 🛠

The world tends to encourage the idea that meaningful work will appear before you if you chase your dreams and passions.

But instead of falling into this passion trap, you can adopt a craftsman mindset: where you focus on quality through deliberate practice. 🔨

Introduce this to your team by asking them to shift from "What do I want?" to "What can I be excellent at?" 🎻

2️⃣ Dig deeper in your 1:1s 🕵️

You've laid the groundwork for asking some pointed career questions:

✅ What skills do others have in your field that you don't yet?

✅ What could you learn that would make you unique in your field?

✅ What could you do to have a higher impact on this team?

✅ Who's someone you admire, and what sets them apart from the rest?

It would help if you ended up with a list of 3-5 skills you can target together.

3️⃣ Make it a roadmap 🛣️

Look at your next 3, 6, and 9 months, then make a skills roadmap.

For example, if your graphic designer 🎨 wants to learn to code 👨🏻‍💻 :

Three️⃣ months: attend at least two coding workshops

Six️⃣ months: draft the first website landing page

Nine️⃣ months: first polished website up and running

Please do this for each skill, place these deadlines in your shared calendar, and use your 1:1s to check on progress towards them.

They're on the road to excellence!

4️⃣ Crafting the path to passion 😍

This tactic is excellent for members of your team flailing a bit with growth or young professionals needing a bit more of your time and guidance.

Helping your team adopt the craftsman mindset and create a skills roadmap sets them on the path to greatness.

And they'll likely find passion along the way, so it's a win-win.
