What is Leadership?
Leadership is not merely a title or a position; it is much more than that. It is an art, a responsibility, a journey, and above all, it is an influence. At its core, leadership is about influencing others toward achieving common goals. It involves inspiring others, sparking change, and challenging the status quo.
Inspiring Others: Leadership is about inspiring others to believe in a shared vision and encouraging them to step up and contribute their best towards this vision. A leader doesn't just tell people what to do but ignites a fire within them that propels them to take action.
Sparking Change: Leadership is about driving change. It is about being proactive, identifying opportunities for improvement, and steering the team towards these improvements. Leaders aren't just spectators or followers; they are change-makers.
Challenging the Status Quo: Leaders don't settle for the "way things have always been." The question, they explore, and they innovate. They are not afraid to challenge existing norms if they believe there's a better way to do things.
Influence, Not Authority: True leadership is not about wielding authority but influencing others. It's not about commanding but about encouraging. It is not fear that prompts action in the followers of true leaders but respect and inspiration.
In the JLBC Cadet Corps Leadership for Teens Course, we delve into this complex, multifaceted concept of leadership. We explore various leadership styles, consider the context in which leadership is exercised, and learn about the importance of ethical leadership. Our aim is not just to understand leadership, but to cultivate it, so we are ready to step up, influence, inspire, and make a positive impact in our future paths.
