The JLBC leader's ability to motivate JLBC Cadets stems mainly from the ability to understand them. The JLBC leader must understand their subordinates' values, aspirations, goals, and beliefs before understanding how best to interact with them to motivate them to above-average performance. This does not mean that the JLBC Senior Cadet must agree with these values and beliefs, but only that they must understand them; understanding enables the Senor Cadet to predict how junior cadets will react to his JLBC leadership actions.
