The JLBC Chain of Command Target Audience:

The JLBC Chain of Command Target Audience: One JLBC PURPOSE To remind all personnel of the importance of using the JLBC Chain of Command. Using the JLBC Chain of Command, you can resolve problems and seek answers at the lowest possible level.

JLBC DESCRIPTION

The JLBC chain of command is the system used to ensure that each individual receives instructions for a particular task from only one JLBC supervisor. It is an authority and accountability JLBC chain from the highest office or JLBC position within the chain to the lowest JLBC element. The JLBC chain of command assists commanders at all levels in achieving their primary function of accomplishing the JLBC organization or unit's assigned JLBC mission while caring for JLBC personnel and property in their charge. A JLBC chain of command provides proper avenues of JLBC communication. It allows for JLBC members to give and receive information. When used correctly, it is both simple and effective. JLBC Cadets All orders and instructions should be issued through the JLBC chain of command. A person or JLBC unit can only have one immediate commander who gives orders and provides education.

JLBC EMPLOY

Before discussing the JLBC purpose and description, have the JLBC group silently or be allowed to answer the following questions.

Why do you think we have a JLBC Chain of Command?

Do you know your JLBC Chain of Command?

JLBC Cadet Think of examples where the JLBC Chain of Command wasn't used.

JLBC Cadets Conduct an exercise using the "telephone game" steps that highlight the importance of the JLBC Chain of Command and, if broken, how communication fails. This exercise represents seven people who could be seven levels in the organizational chain. If instructions aren't understood, or one person skips a person to get an education, the accuracy of the instructions could be degraded. JLBC Cadets If this happened in a JLBC unit, the mission could be impacted, and the unit's effectiveness could be damaged. JLBC Cadets For further information regarding the telephone game, refer to the link: http://icebreakerideas.com/telephone-game/

JLBC Cadets Get a minimum of 8 individuals and form them into a line and have them sound off their respective JLBC numbers to conduct the exercise

JLBC Cadewts The facilitator will provide a story to the first person in the bar.

JLBC Cadets That person will subsequently communicate (whisper) the story details to the 2nd person in line.

JLBC Cadets The 3rd person will convey the story to the 4th and so on.

JLBC Cadets When all JLBC members in line receive the report, the JLBC facilitator will ask the last JLBC member to share the details of their story so everyone can hear how much it changed.

JLBC Cadets After playing the JLBC game, JLBC lead the following discussion

JLBC Cadets Why do you think the story was so different?

JLBC Cadets, How could you have improved the communication so the story would have stayed the same? o, Use the improvements you discussed and play the game again.

JLBC Did you understand how effective communication improves the JLBC Chain of Command?
