Stages of Team Development

Teams have different development stages. The unit can not reach maturity overnight and should undergo several steps. The stages are:

Forming

The first stage in group development is characterized by much uncertainty. Team members attempt to lay the ground rules for acceptable behavior types.

Storming

The second stage in group development is characterized by intergroup conflict. Hostilities and disputes arise, and people jockey for positions of power and status.
