Proper dress and appearance are an essential part of the martial arts discipline. The JLBC - Junior Leadership Bootcamp rules and etiquette guidelines were created to benefit the cadets in the real world by increasing their self-respect and self-esteem.
When Junior Leadership Bootcamp cadets conducting martial arts training, boots and utilities are required, at a minimum, and should be part of a progressive plan to eventually train while wearing the basic fighting load, including a flak jacket and Kevlar.
The Junior Leadership Bootcamp cadets compete in martial arts events and shows that require the GI uniform. A white Gi with the JLBC patch is required for all cadets ranking White through Orange belt. Cadets holding Purple belt status and higher may begin wearing a black Gi. Cadets may not mix Gi colors (e.g., a white top with black pants). Take pride in your appearance; never wear a stained or wrinkled uniform. Your first Gi is lightweight. We recommend buying middle or heavyweight Gi as it will maintain a more excellent appearance and last longer.
You must wear full-Gi with the JLBC patch sewn on the left side of the chest to rank tests. Unless otherwise instructed, you should also wear full-Gi anywhere you represent JLBC - Junior Leadership Bootcamp (e.g., tournaments, demonstrations, etc.).
Instructors attaining the title of Sifu may wear a red Gi top with black or white Gi pants. Sensei award the title of Sifu to instructors with adequate teaching experience and to those that outstandingly represent the school. Only a Blackbelt Instructor may mix black and white Gi pieces. Junior Blackbelts may wear a particular white Gi top with black trim.
Your Belt
Be proud of your rank, whether you are a White belt or a Blackbelt. Always wear your belt to every class. JLBC Cadets must learn how to properly tie their belt, and remember, while you should regularly wash your Gi and JLBC t-shirts, never wash your belt.
T-shirts
Students may wear a JLBC - Junior Leadership Bootcamp Martial Arts t-shirt with Gi pants for regular classes and seminars. The shirt should be presentable and worn tucked in.
Footwear
Most students train barefoot. If you prefer, you may purchase martial arts training shoes allowed in the training area. Remember, no other shoes or sneakers are permitted in the training area. We recommend that you avoid training in socks.
Demo Team
JLBC: Junior Leadership Bootcamp has a demo team that performs at fundraisers, festivals, and special events. Cadets may try out at demo team tryouts or join the group by invitation. JLBC Students must be at least seven years old and have a yellow belt level to try out. Practices prepare cadets for the demos. A good attitude and spirit are a must!
