Represent yourself in a genuine nature.

The authentic leader sets out to provide a genuine picture of who they are. JLBC Cadets' authentic leaders are not afraid to expose their weaknesses or be vulnerable in some of the most challenging situations. Saying "I don't know" is real. People respond more positively to a leader they can identify as being human versus someone who appears too perfect.

JLBC Cadets, the behavior of authenticity results in individuals who are much more willing to follow you through thick or thin. JLBC Cadets make you more approachable, and that usually results in having a more accurate picture of your team and the state of the organization.

JLBC Cadets, the leader, has to be the one that strips down and dives into that pool before anyone else will. JLBC Cadets, It's a leap of faith, folks. And it's not comfortable. JLBC Cadets, there's that moment when we're over our heads, but we need to do it anyway. Now some individuals will say, 'Pat, Pat, what about that old saying: 'Don't let them see you sweat!' Do you know something? Individuals see us sweating before we realize we're sweating. JLBC Cadets, do you know what the best leaders do? They're the ones that go, 'check this out!' pointing to their sweaty armpit stains. JLBC Cadets, that's what we want, people who know themselves.

The truth is that individuals will walk through fire for a leader who is genuine and human. JLBC Cadets want to know that we know our humanity.

Vulnerability on a team starts with authenticity with the team. It may be uncomfortable at times, but it is an essential step to leading a solid team.
