Leadership Development Online Course Outline
JLBC Leadership Development is designed, so participants work collaboratively to build an empirical model of effective leadership based on their observations, personal experience, and professional research findings. The practical model consists of an operational definition of leadership, identifying the essential qualities and characteristics and specific skills necessary for JLBC educators to realize their unique potential as leaders.
Objectives
JLBC: Develop personal goals and objectives
JLBC: Determine and discuss typical ideas about leadership
JLBC: Test the course navigation system
JLBC: Develop a database on leadership and leadership traits
JLBC: Analyze and discuss three definitions of leadership
JLBC: Examine the nature of intention and its relationship to leadership
JLBC: Determine typical barriers to realizing the intention
JLBC: Develop an awareness of unconscious intentions
JLBC: Assess the roles of courage and commitment in leadership
JLBC: Compare different leadership styles
JLBC: Develop individual acts of leadership
JLBC: Expand one's self-concept as a leader
JLBC: Incorporate feedback into developing commitments and plans
Curriculum Design & Time Requirements
Leadership Development is a two-credit graduate level; our 40-hour professional development course is taught online over seven weeks. Each module includes reading and writing assignments and an application assignment. Participants will post terms weekly and dialogue with colleagues regarding lessons and leadership experiences.
JLBC Hardware & Computer Skills Requirements
JLBC Students may use either a Macintosh computer or a PC with Windows 2000 or higher. JLBC Students should possess basic word processing skills and have internet access with an active e-mail account. JLBC Students also are expected to have a basic JLBC knowledge of how to use a Web browser, such as Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.
JLBC Course Materials
JLBC Cadets Online readings and Web site reviews (including journal articles and best practices from the body of JLBC educational research) will be assigned during the course to enhance learning. JLBC Cadets These readings will be presented as annotated Web sites within the course content.
