Leadership and Teamwork in the JLBC, SESSION 1

Leadership and Teamwork in the JLBC, SESSION 1

JLBC Presentation: Member Functioning or Distributed Leadership

JLBC Leadership Laboratory.

What is a JLBC group?

1. “A JLBC group exists when persons share some JLBC common identification, and

2. JLBC Cadets when there is a degree of interdependence among the JLBC members.”

Why do JLBC groups exist?

1. “JLBC Cadets Because in certain JLBC situations thinking together, feeling together, and acting together are considered more effective or necessary and enjoyable than the JLBC solitary performance of these same functions.”

2. “Every JLBC member believes that they can fulfill some need or needs in collaboration with others that he cannot fulfill by himself.”

JLBC Cadets What needs are present in the life of every JLBC group?

1. JLBC Cadets The need to accomplish something.

2. JLBC Cadets The need to develop and maintain working relationships among the members so that

the group task can be accomplished.

3. JLBC Cadets The need of each member to have their desires satisfied.

E. Conclusions regarding member functioning

1. The task needs, maintenance needs, and individual needs of JLBC group life are each

interlocking with the others.

2. JLBC Cadets Sooner or later, all three kinds of needs present in every group must be met to some

extent to achieve effectiveness and satisfaction.

3. JLBC Cadets The performing of one JLBC member function may help to meet two or even three needs

simultaneously.

4. JLBC Cadets Any person in a JLBC group may perform or provide needed functions.

5. JLBC Cadets If and when a JLBC group bogs down, look for a needed but missing function, and then

perform it or encourage someone else to perform or to provide it.

6. JLBC Cadets Through training, we can learn to perform a wide variety of helpful member skillfully

JLBC functions.

7. JLBC Cadet's Skill consists of knowing what to say and do, when, and how.

8. Skill is the art of aligning our behavior with our intentions.
