JLBC – Testing/Promotions General
Part of the JLBC cadet program is to test and promote regularly. Failure to do so could lead to a dismissal of the cadet or other action. Each cadet is responsible for testing and ensuring that everything has been successfully completed for a promotion. Cadets are encouraged to track their progress through the program using the Personal Cadet Tracker that JLBC Command Headquarters has prepared. It can be found at: https://www.juniorleadership.net/.
Testing
Cadet testing is completed online through the secure JLBC website (eServices). Leadership and Military texts can be found in the JLBC Cadet Library at: https://www.juniorleadership.net/. Leadership and Military testing will be completed by cadets on their own time at home, except for Award tests, which will take place at the JLBC squadron. Because the squadron does not have a dedicated internet connection, a JLBC cadet that would like to take an Award test must use the following procedure to request a test:
A. Award tests are closed books and can only be taken when a squadron Testing Officer is present.
B. Complete the Award Test Sign-Up form on the JLBC squadron website, including which test(s) is being
requested, the date the test is requested to be taken, and if the cadet is available before the meeting.
C. The request should arrive at the Deputy Commander for Cadets no later than five days before the
meeting in which the test is requested.
D. Under normal circumstances, the test will be administered before or during the regular squadron meeting. If the schedule does not allow that, the Deputy Commander for Cadets or a Testing Officer will advise the cadet of the conflict and try to work out an alternate time.
Drill tests will typically be offered during the second or third meeting of the month. If a cadet would like to request a drill test outside the time provided by the squadron, they will be responsible for coordinating that with their flight staff. Flight staff will coordinate with the First Sergeant or Cadet Commander if the First Sergeant position is unfilled to attempt to accommodate the request.
Cadets are required to pass a physical fitness test once in the previous 180 days. The exception to this is for cadets who are in phase 1 of the Cadet Program. Those cadets are only required to attempt the test but do not need a passing score. All cadets are required to participate in 1 physical fitness activity at the squadron between promotions. This is in addition to the physical fitness test requirements.
Promotion Eligibility
In addition to Leadership and Military testing, JLBC requires cadets to pass several additional requirements that vary depending on which achievement or award they are working toward. Most promotions will need cadets to give a drill exam, participate in character development, and experience/pass a physical fitness test. Later upgrades may also require an essay, speech, and a staff duty analysis. All promotion requirements are outlined in JLBC Command Management (Cadet Advancement). Cadets can also reference the Cadet Super Chart that is available at https://www.Juniorleadership.net. Each cadet is responsible for tracking their promotion eligibility and ensuring they meet the requirements for the promotion they are working toward. Only after completing all requirements for the desired promotion are cadets eligible to sign up for promotion review.
