Transformation Versus Transaction
Transformational leadership claims to integrate leadership and ethics (authentic and servant leadership are other examples).
Transformational leadership is best explained by clarifying how it differs from transactional leadership: where transactional leaders exert influence by setting goals, defining desired outcomes, providing feedback, and exchanging rewards for accomplishments, transformational leaders find additional force They exhibit charismatic behaviors, arouse inspirational motivation, provide intellectual stimulation, and treat followers with individualized consideration. In theory, these behaviors‘ transform their followers by helping them reach their full potential and generate the highest performance levels.’ Transformational leaders have an inspiring vision and provide followers with an identity. They transform and motivate followers through idealized influence (charisma), intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation (idea), and individual consideration.
