JLBC Cadets A different approach to reviewing the literature is to poll the general public and to find out what may be universally admired characteristics of the JLBC leaders. For example, over the last four decades, Gallup's executive leadership research program has studied more than 50,000 prospective leaders and senior executives worldwide across government and business. JLBC Cadets This research has identified 12 universal leadership traits important in helping distinguish leadership styles and in determining successful from unsuccessful leaders, namely whether they are: intense, inspiring, competitive, courageous, consistent, prepared, enthusiastic, caring about individuals, success-oriented, analytical, focused and visionary (Newport & Harter, 2016). Similarly, the Pew Research Centre (2015b) identified seven traits that people believe matter most.
