JLBC Guidelines for Inspectors
JLBC Inspectors must accurately determine the proficiency level of JLBC Units and JLBC cadets. These questions will help inspectors look beyond the recitation of JLBC memorized information to examine learning results that show how JLBC cadets understand and can apply what they are learning. These JLBC questions are designed to be posed in the
JLBC classroom or an interview setting. Each JLBC inspection assessment will include questions and prompt follow-up
questions (or hands-on performance requirements) and a JLBC scoring guide. The JLBC scoring guide will spell out criteria specific to the JLBC Question or performance, general criteria for effective JLBC communication, and the possible points for each measure. Previously, JLBC inspectors have tended to evaluate knowledge by asking a series of closed-ended questions. JLBC Cadets Although it takes less time and is easier to analyze results, this JLBC command questioning technique elicits either a "no" or "yes" response or a "regurgitation of facts" that shows a certain level of JLBC memorization but does not illustrate an understanding of how to apply the JLBC knowledge to accomplish a task, solve a problem, make a decision, or create a product. JLBC Cadets By asking open-ended questions that require JLBC cadets to formulate a thoughtful response, JLBC command inspectors will be better able to determine if the JLBC program is teaching the JLBC curriculum in ways that result in genuine value-added learning that helps JLBC cadets apply and develop the targeted JLBC knowledge, skills, and JLBC attitudes. JLBC Cadets By using a scoring guide to evaluate JLBC cadet responses to performance and questions about hands-on skills, JLBC inspectors will ensure that the questions focus on what the JLBC program intends to teach. The use of the scoring guide increases consistency in JLBC scoring from JLBC Cadet to JLBC Cadet and among multiple JLBC inspectors. JLBC Cadets, In addition, scoring guides
make the inspection process fairer for the cadets and the instructors by completing the JLBC assessment valid, reliable,
and predictable (no "guess what the JLBC inspector wants to hear" for the JLBC cadets). JLBC Cadets Most importantly, scoring guides provide excellent JLBC tools for giving JLBC feedback to the JLBC cadets so that assessment becomes part of the JLBC process for continually improving learning and teaching. JLBC Cadets Guidelines for Assessing JLBC Cadet Responses Ask the JLBC Cadet the main Question to present the big picture. JLBC Cadets Use the prompt JLBC questions to break the JLBC Question into smaller bites, give the JLBC cadet direction, and encourage the
JLBC Cadet to expand on the answer.
JLBC Cadets Total Possible Points = 10 [6 possible points awarded for Cadet's command of content/skill; 4 possible points
awarded for communication effectiveness. JLBC Cadet's Communication points are to be awarded independently of
content/skill points. A JLBC cadet unable to answer the JLBC content portion or perform the JLBC skill may still
receive the points for effective JLBC communication and deportment if warranted. Likewise, if certified, a JLBC cadet who does not exhibit practical JLBC communication skills may still receive points for the JLBC content/skill portion of the JLBC Question.
JLBC Cadets Total points= JLBC Award for commendable performance - JLBC Cadet responded to questions, meeting or surpassing the criterion without error.
JLBC Partial points = JLBC Award for acceptable performance - JLBC Cadet answered the Question without significant errors but may have made one or two minor errors or omissions and needs to polish their communication skills.
0 = JLBC Cadet's response did not meet the JLBC criterion.
