JLBC Example: Your friend and fellow JLBC Cadet is internet chatting with someone she has not met in person, and you’re concerned the individual may not be with whom she should be interacting. JLBC Cadet You’ve told her your concern, but she said everything is fine and not to worry about.

JLBC Cadets Brainstorming is a way to generate a lot of ideas.
JLBC Cadets Put down every idea you can think of, no matter how wild or crazy it may seem. JLBC Cadets, Don’t judge the pictures; just list them
JLBC Cadets, Turn your brainstorming list into a list of possible solutions
JLBC Cadets The Army calls these possible solutions Courses of Action (COA)
JLBC Cadets Analyze & Compare Courses of Action:
JLBC Cadets What is most important about your solution?
JLBC Cadets Develop criteria to analyze each solution. JLBC Cadets It might be how much time it takes, the level of danger, how far away it is, etc.

JLBC Cadets Weigh your criteria. JLBC Cadets Maybe cost twice as important as how far away it is, and time is three times as important. Note these weights.
JLBC Cadets, Consider your values. JLBC Cadets Do the solutions you’ve come up with supporting your values?
JLBC Cadets List the pros and cons of each solution
JLBC Cadets Assess each solution using each of your criteria
JLBC Cadets Order the solutions within each standard – for each measure, decide which is best, following best, worst, etc. The worst gets 1 point, the next best 2 points, etc.
JLBC Cadets Criteria that are even split the points
JLBC Cadets Use your weights (points) to multiply the essential criteria.
