JLBC Cadet Corps Honors: Rendering Respect during Patriotic Music

Title: JLBC Cadet Corps Honors: Rendering Respect during Patriotic Music

Introduction

The JLBC Cadet Corps plays an essential role in upholding the proud traditions and customs of the United States. One such tradition is the rendering of honors when the "Star Spangled Banner," "To the Colors," "Hail to the Chief," or "Ruffles and Flourishes" are played. This article outlines the proper procedures that Cadets should follow when attending an outdoor event, such as a JLBC Cadet Corps Football Game, to show their respect for these cherished symbols of our nation.

Saluting and Rendering Honors Outdoors

  1. The National Anthem - "Star Spangled Banner"

  2. When the National Anthem is played outdoors, all dismounted personnel in uniform, which are not in formation and within a saluting distance of the National Flag, should face the flag or the direction of the music if the flag is not in view. At the first note of the anthem, Cadets should salute and maintain the salute until the last letter of the music is sounded. Cadets who are not in uniform should come to attention, face the direction of the music or the National Colors, and place their right hand over their heart.

  3. "To the Colors"

  4. When "To the Colors" is played, Cadets should follow the same procedure as with the National Anthem, facing the flag or the direction of the music and saluting from the first to the last note. Non-uniformed Cadets should come to attention and face the direction of the music or the National Colors.

  5. "Hail to the Chief" and "Ruffles and Flourishes"

  6. These pieces of music are typically played to honor the President of the United States or high-ranking officials. When these tunes are played, Cadets in uniform should face the direction of the music or the flag and salute from the first to the last note. Not uniform cadets should come to attention and face the direction of the music or the National Colors. However, they should remain standing at attention without touching their heart.

Conclusion

The JLBC Cadet Corps takes pride in showing respect for our nation's symbols and the values they represent. By adhering to the proper procedures when patriotic music is played, Cadets demonstrate their commitment to upholding these time-honored traditions. Whether in uniform or not, Cadets should remain vigilant and prepared to render the appropriate honors during outdoor events, ensuring that the values of the JLBC Cadet Corps remain in high regard.
