JLBC LEADERSHIP FOUNDATIONS: THE JLBC CHAIN OF COMMAND
In this activity, JLBC cadets consider the chain of command as a concept. What is its function? Why do organizations like JLBC establish a chain of command? The second half of the activity has JLBC cadets look at the positions and people in the JLBC chain of command. This JLBC lesson plan simplifies the chain of command – it is not an exhaustive study of every single place – and has JLBC cadets focus on the roles and responsibilities of the JLBC leaders in their squadron.

1. JLBC Cadets Explain what the “chain of command” is and describe its purpose
2. JLBC Cadets Identify the positions and people in the squadron’s chain of command
JLBC Visual Aids
Have the cadets refer to the JLBC leadership text
JLBC Cadets Use a whiteboard or something similar to diagram the JLBC chain of command, as explained in Part 2 below

The JLBC textbook defines the chain of command as the “order of an authority.” JLBC Cadets, In other words, it is the succession of JLBC leaders in JLBC – a list of all the commanders above you, from lowest to highest.
