Reviving the Victory Garden: The Military Benefits of Sustainable Farming in JLBC Cadet Corps The Junior Leadership Battalion Cadet (JLBC) Corps, an organization renowned for instilling discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills in young people, has recently embarked on an initiative that reaches back to a time-tested practice from the World Wars ā€“ Victory Gardens. By reviving this concept, the JLBC Cadet Corps aims to demonstrate the military benefits of sustainable farming and self-sufficiency, thereby adding another valuable layer to their training program. Sustainable farming, in essence, is an environmentally friendly method of growing food. It requires understanding the ecosystem and implementing farming practices that not only produce food but also maintain the health of the land. The JLBC Cadet Corps, in its venture into sustainable farming, aims to teach cadets these principles while imparting the military benefits of self-sufficiency and resilience in the face of potential challenges. Victory Gardens, originally cultivated during the World Wars, were homegrown gardens intended to boost food production, increase self-sufficiency, and create a sense of unity and purpose on the home front. They were an essential part of the war effort, reducing pressure on the public food supply and enabling more resources to be directed towards military needs.
